Who We Are

Established 2014

The Christ Church family of churches has been celebrating the gospel of Jesus Christ in Jacksonville since 1984. That’s when our mother church was planted in Mandarin, a neighborhood on the south side of the city. Gripped by a vision to see the gospel spread throughout the city, Christ Church Presbyterian began planting churches. Christ Church East was planted in 2010, and shortly thereafter these two churches began planning to plant a new church in Jacksonville’s urban core.

Dave and Hayley Abney moved to Jacksonville in 2012 with the calling to plant this new church. After two years of praying, dreaming, planning and meeting together in our homes, Christ Church InTown held our first worship service on Easter Sunday, 2014. Since that first Sunday, we have been in this adventure of faith discovering what it means for us to live out the gospel together in urban Jacksonville. We have seen over and over again how God’s grace touches and transforms broken, sinful, doubting and hurting people. We have seen how he uses those same broken people to make his kingdom visible in their lives and relationships. We have heard God’s call to apply the gospel of reconciling grace to the social life of a community torn by racism, prejudice and generational poverty. We desire to be an uncommon fellowship – where people of different cultures, ethnicities, ages and classes find joy in our life together. We are excited to continue planting churches throughout the city and most recently helped to launch Christ Church Beaches in 2019.

Wherever you are in your spiritual journey, we’d love to have you join us. We remain convinced that the gospel is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). It is his power for remaking broken people like us, fractured communities like ours, and a world starved for grace. Join us as we discover and celebrate the power of the gospel together.
