FROM PASTOR DAVE…

Dear InTown Family,

I hope you will join us for a special five-week School of Discipleship class starting this Sunday, April 24th at 9:30 AM. One Church, One Mission will be an opportunity to focus our attention on what matters most to us as a church – the gospel of Jesus Christ. All of our hopes for our individual lives, our church, and our city rest on the power of the gospel. Paul tells us that the gospel is the very power of God for the salvation of all who believe (Rom 1:16).

This month marks eight years together since the launch of our church. It is an opportune time for us to come together around our core convictions and to allow the gospel to refocus our hearts and renew our mission. We’ll cover the following topics over these five weeks:

  • One Message – The gospel of Jesus Christ
  • One Mission – cultivating a healthy, gospel-centered church in urban Jacksonville
  • United in Truth – maintaining a culture of theological conviction, unity and respect in a diverse and polarized world
  • One Body, Many Parts – finding our place to belong and to serve as members of the church

Healthy Structures for a Healthy Church – understanding our church’s systems of belief, accountability and leadership
If you are not yet a member of InTown, this class will fulfill the requirements of our typical Membership Class. We will have a follow-up event just for you after the class to ask questions and get to know the church leadership better.

Brothers and Sisters, these past few years have brought unprecedented challenges to our church. We have endured a pandemic and significant cultural upheaval. We have clung to Christ, and he has been faithful to us. At times it has been very hard, and you may have wondered what the future would hold. But let me remind us all that we are an Easter people! We believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and that he fills our lives and our church with his resurrection power. We believe that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Rom. 6:10)! We believe that we ourselves no longer live, but Christ lives in us (Gal 2:20)! We believe that our church is not really our church at all! It is rather Jesus’ church, and he lives his life in and through us. He doesn’t leave us to figure out our mission, he enlists us in his mission. For this reason, I am firmly convinced that our best and most fruitful years of ministry are ahead of us as a church.

I really hope you can join us for this class. We’ll have classes for the kids at every age group, and child care for our youngest members. We’ll have coffee and donuts. But above all we’ll have Christ and his gospel and his Spirit. We’ll have one another – each of us vital members of this uncommon family of faith.

Grace and Peace,
Dave
